Art & Soul: A Women’s Journey Through Creativity and Culture in Rome

Overview and purpose

Art & Soul is more than a workshop, it’s a curated journey designed for women who are ready to explore their creativity, immerse themselves in timeless beauty, and reconnect with their personal voice through art.

Set in the inspiring heart of Rome, this 10-day experiential program combines artistic exploration with cultural immersion. You don’t need prior artistic experience, only curiosity and a willingness to see the world differently.

Each morning, you’ll build practical skills through hands-on sessions in drawing, watercolor, and mixed media. In the afternoons, you’ll discover Rome’s artistic heritage from a new perspective, visiting museums, ateliers, and iconic neighborhoods that mirror the themes of the day.

Throughout the program, you’ll gradually develop your own personal artwork, a creative piece that reflects your journey, influences, and inner voice. The experience culminates in a group showcase, where each participant presents her final piece in a celebratory, supportive setting.

Delivered in English with full Arabic-speaking support, this workshop has been carefully designed for Gulf women who seek meaningful travel, cultural sophistication, and a space to grow.

Duration and Daily Schedule

10 days, Including morning workshops, themed cultural experiences in the afternoon, and moments for leisure and reflection. The program builds gradually toward a final personal artwork and group celebration.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome to Rome

  • Morning: Individual arrivals, hotel check‑in, time to settle.
  • Afternoon: Orientation with Alfa Edu staff and your cultural buddy. We review the 10‑day arc, walk through practical tips, and distribute sketchbooks and materials. A short reflective discussion about “What drew me to this journey?” to set the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Training the Eye: Line & Shape

  • Morning: Focused drawing exercises that break everyday objects into line, contour, and negative space, establishing the visual “alphabet” artists use.
  • Afternoon: Guided walk to Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Using the morning’s techniques, participants create rapid line studies of architectural forms, connecting studio theory to Rome’s living classroom.

Day 3: Classical Form & the Human Figure

  • Morning: Proportion grids and gesture drawing from photo references and a rented plaster cast; live instructor demos clarify pitfalls.
  • Afternoon: Villa Borghese sculpture garden. Participants select one statue, overlay gesture lines in their sketchbooks, and note how classical artists conveyed weight and movement.

Day 4: Colour, Light & Atmosphere

  • Morning: Introduction to water‑based media: washes, layering, glazing. Each participant builds a personalised “palette card” that reflects both observation and emotional intent.
  • Afternoon: Trastevere colour study. In small groups, photograph façades and market scenes, matching hues to your palette card. These reference shots become raw material for mixed‑media work.

Day 5: Open Reflection Day

  • No scheduled sessions. Suggested options: spa visit, café journaling, open‑air market. A self-reflection moment about “What colours and forms resonate with my own story?” would feed directly into the next day’s design work.

Day 6: Materials, Texture & Mixed Media

  • Morning: Hands‑on stations (collage, fabric, acrylic glazing) where participants test how texture and image layering can carry meaning. Each person assembles an “identity mood‑board” using Day 4 colours and Day 5 reflections.
  • Afternoon: Walk through the MAXXI plaza and adjacent street‑art lanes. Discussion focuses on how contemporary women artists expand traditional media, providing conceptual fuel for the final piece.

Day 7: Concept Development & Project Start

  • Morning: Guided mind‑mapping to turn the mood‑board into a clear project brief: theme, medium choice, and desired emotional impact. Instructor desk critiques check alignment with course outcomes.
  • Afternoon: First build session on the final artwork. Midway, a 15‑minute peer critique helps surface early adjustments while they’re still easy.

Day 8: Deep Work & Articulation

  • Morning: Extended studio time to refine the artwork, apply feedback, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Afternoon: Professional documentation: high‑quality photos and a concise artist statement draft. A sunset reflection walk anchors the day and clears mental space before finishing touches.

Day 9: Showcase & Celebration

  • Morning: Final details, mounting, and gallery set‑up in the studio lounge. Rehearse your two‑minute artist statement.
  • Afternoon: Private exhibition for the cohort plus invited local guests. Supportive feedback, certificate presentation, and a celebratory dinner close the formal program.

Day 10: Departure & Forward Momentum

  • Morning: Closing circle. Write a letter to your “future artist self” and set a 30‑day creative intention. Group photos and farewells.
  • Afternoon: Departures with optional shared transfer to the airport.
