Alfa Edu is pleased to celebrate the successful completion of its Basic Digital Skills in Rome programme—an educational journey that transformed the city into an open-air digital learning laboratory.
Over five days, participants explored how digital tools influence communication, identity, perception and everyday decisions. Instead of learning only through screens, they applied their skills in real locations across Rome, including the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Colosseum, Villa Borghese, Piazza di Spagna and Trastevere.
From Digital Users to Critical Thinkers
Through practical urban challenges, participants learned how to:
- Evaluate online sources and verify information
- Recognise misinformation, scams and phishing attempts
- Understand privacy and digital footprints
- Compare online representation with physical reality
- Examine how algorithms influence digital experiences
- Communicate responsibly across different platforms
- Create ethical digital content
The programme combined teamwork, real-world observation and critical reflection. Participants compared search results, examined online reviews, analysed digital reputation and explored how personal data can shape online visibility.
Learning Digital Skills Beyond the Screen
The Basic Digital Skills in Rome experience demonstrated that digital competence is not simply about knowing how to use technology. It is also about using it critically, safely and responsibly.
This approach supports the goals of the European Commission’s Digital Competence Framework, which encourages people to become confident, critical and responsible users of digital technologies.
